Explore personal wellness and self-cultivation through Buddhist, Daoist, and Confucian ideas and practices with Professor Stephen Covell.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Personal wellness and self-development dominate the social media and publishing landscape. And yet interest in the questions of "How can I improve myself" and "How can I improve my community" are not new and have been thoroughly developed in the traditions of Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism. Join Dr. Stephen Covell as he explores the practices of self-cultivation and how people have explored personal and social wellness through these belief systems.

Speaker's Biography

Dr. Stephen Covell is the Mary Meader Professor of Comparative Religion and has lived and studied in Japan for over ten years where he taught English in a junior high school, worked as a translator, practiced martial arts and trained as a Buddhist priest. He earned his Ph.D. and MA at Princeton and an MA at the University of Hawai’i. A two-time Fulbright Scholar, he leads a WMU study abroad program to Japan where students stay at temples and learn about Japanese religion and culture.
