Nature Hike: Bioblitz

West Lake Nature Preserve

Become a Citizen Scientist! Enjoy a hike at the beautiful West Nature Preserve and also collect data about the biodiversity there for scientists to review.

Registration Required 

West Lake Nature Preserve is teeming with life! Put on your Citizen Science hat, pull out your binoculars, and join the Portage District Library and Portage Parks & Recreation staff on an adventure through West Lake Nature Preserve. Find out what animals, insects, fungi and plants call this place home by participating in our annual Bioblitz.

Participants will use the iNaturalist app to identify different flora and fauna in the area, finding an overall count of organisms calling West Lake Nature Preserve home. Results will give us information to help determine the biodiversity at West Lake.

There will be activities available for Adults and Youth.

You will need to bring a smart phone with the iNaturalist app installed to participate in the Bioblitz.

This is an outdoor program, so come prepared for the weather.
